A Poetic Memoir by Oddymacfoy
Introduction
This poem marks a turning point in my journey—from retail floors to boardrooms, through shutdowns, storms, and silent lessons. “Pit Stops & Pillars” is a reflection on what it means to be forged by loss, found by purpose, and led by vision.
I was a lost boy, then a rebel— who became a poet just to get justice. Discovered dyslexia, used it as currency, bought my freedom. A crown for the vision, as I now step into the mission. Don’t live just for the flashing lights. There’s more to come when the moon drops, the mood pops like a boombox, and we raise the roof off. It feels odd when the pills pop, but there’s no cuff to hold the cups. Now you're locked up, doors slammed in the jammer, all ‘cause you listened to Country Grammar, bandaid on the face like Puff did Mase. Reflecting today— life is full of pit stops. And on the road, some pitfalls. Like a baby with hiccups, we stumble, still learning how to breathe through what shakes us. In the early stages, we get just enough. But when awareness hits— it becomes our job to figure out how it all fits. In just two months, my beginning and my end both closed their doors. Bloomingdale’s in San Francisco— the first place I ever led, where Suzy handed me my first shot. And Pandion— a rocket I believed in, where Jeff sharpened my instincts and helped me rise. One stood for over a century. The other aimed to be the next unicorn. Neither survived the storm. But I did. I’ve had my storms too. Seasons of silence. Times I questioned— if I’d ever be more than the titles, the roles, the limits handed to me. But I was in training. Being shaped. Being forged to become the man I needed to be. To take the reins, build the ship, and sail it— with the trust and dreams of thousands behind me. Now, it’s my time. To create. To lead. To Unlimit Life. This world has changed. And so must we. The moment calls for a new posture, a new positioning— and I am stepping into it. I will fulfill the dreams of that 18-year-old boy— hollow, misunderstood, but filled with fire. So today— salute to my first manager, and my last. You both helped start this becoming. You taught me how to lead, how to think, how to know. But most of all— you reminded me: I am gifted. I belong. I deserve to be here. And now— I am.
